Graduate Exhibition

'From Confidence to Constraint' is a series of wearable products which illustrate the conflicts and confusion experienced by Chinese professional women. The primary structure of the product is a detachable collar. Based on the concept of deconstruction, the existing collar shape changes and adapts, rather than remaining as a fixed form. The design work incorporates two entirely different forms; each symbolises specific and unique female group identities, and the product easily shifts between these two forms. This dichotomy symbolises the way Chinese professional women become stuck between tradition and contemporary expectations.
