Kali
‘Kali’ is a collection of surface patterns that have been developed throughout the Flowering Croquis project which aimed to explore an oriental approach to florals. Panida's collection 'Kali', the Hindi translation for 'blossom', focused on India, as textiles are an immensely meaningful and integral part of Indian culture and standards of living. As one of the oldest industries, textiles remains a dominant force within Indian society, representing a major factor of exports establishing intricate trade routes and international relationships. The diverse languages, social customs, religions and climates throughout India all have a significant impact on the type of textiles produced in each region and the techniques used. Panida took inspiration from botanical illustrations of native Indian plants, historical Indian textiles and the landscape. The designs were developed through digital and mark-making drawings that were manipulated and created through the use of a tablet.
