Within
‘Within’ is a collection of fabrics that have been developed throughout the Gene Visualisation Project which aimed to explore the links between design and science, and how genes and scientific experiments can be expressed visually. ‘Within’ particularly explores Biotechnology which has harnessed the use of living systems and organisms to develop products that will improve the livelihood of the planet by developing treatments for infectious diseases, producing microscopic plants, and aiding in environmentally sustainable farming. Stimulated by this innovative form of 'giving back' to the planet, Panida created a series of fabrics exploring issues of health, food and fuel. Panida's designs are inspired by cellular figures and organisms, influenced by biotechnological microscopic images. By utilising the technique of screen printing on fabrics, Panida was able to transform her designs into a number of home decor items such as cushions and frame works, reminding the viewer of the advancements of science, and generating discussions about Biotechnology.
