While it is difficult to predict the future, it is possible to speculate on future scenarios, and that can lead us to find solutions for the present. The inevitable future of synthetic biology in which living things grow to create our products, will entirely change the way we use and interact with products, preventing the current trend to use and discard. In the design of uPod, this very phenomenon was used to build emotional connections between the conspicuous consumer and their car, by involved users in a process of 'growing its skin'. The consumer can loosely match their identity with that of the car, and in a sense, the car will become the consumer. This encourages users to cherish the product as an extension of themselves, creating experiences and stories that will shape their life in return.
