Restore, Within the Weave
The ubiquity of textiles in our everyday lives suggests that we often overlook the complexities of their material meaning. Shadowed by the dominance of consumption in fashion and textiles, problematic, naive and undesirable consumer-culture behaviours lead to a detachment and disconnection with the materials individuals own and consume. This 'throw away' culture, where the act of discarding is more prevalent than repair and re-use, opens a platform in which consumers can share control in leading and inspiring positive change in habitual behaviours. 'Restore, Within the Weave' aims to communicate the embedded narratives within materials and expose mindful design approaches, facilitating alternate behaviours guided by an educated awareness and personal empowerment. This collection of bespoke, woven vessels, displayed alongside an informative graphic catalogue, aims to imagine alternative ways of repurposing and reconnecting, and further ‘carry’ the choice of change in the value of textiles we own and consume.
