Childhood
Harleigh English explores notions of place in his work, reflecting upon how realms are constructed, the urban inhabitation of space and social influence on the landscape. As humans adapt, so do the landscapes on which they live. A structure assembled on the landscape therefore becomes a collection of times both past and present, subject to constant change by natural and human interactions, yet devoid of the ability to change itself. Areas are shaped and influenced by human attempts to foster deeper connections informed by individual and collective predispositions whilst also remaining functional, meaningful and reflective of human's place within nature. By utilising clay and a collection of glazes and underglazes, Harleigh's work seeks to represent these landscapes, revealing the interactions between the human and the natural.
