While Emily Dabron's practice is predominantly grounded in drawing, for this project she has created a largely sculptural body of work exploring the personal, the self, and the spiritual, guided by an intense connection with the Lion. The overarching aim of Emily’s work is to explore the cognitive processes between lions and humans in regards to family and kinship, particularly concerning the father-daughter relationship. Anthropology, animal studies and anthropomorphism have significantly informed Emily's work which is underpinned by a substantial amount of research into the physical and psychological effects of the father-daughter dyad. Comparative studies of empathy and family among lions are essential to Emily’s body of work, deeply influencing how she navigates through these ideas and how these notions can relate to particular relationships within a family. Emily utilises the search for approval, love and recognition as a catalyst for this series, exploring how the averted gaze of the daughter becomes representational of this search.
