The Last Bison
'The Last Bison' encapsulates Amy Buchan's research into how the video game can serve as an art form, facilitated by her experimentation with creating an immersive 3D environment that users can explore and enjoy. The environment itself presents a land that has been devastated by an unknown catastrophe, and users can explore and investigate clues hidden in the scenery to piece together the history of the world around them. Contributing to a sense of freedom, the user can befriend and ride a giant bison creature to move through the environment more quickly, providing them with a choice in how to observe and interpret the world they've been placed in. 'The Last Bison' follows the technical conventions of a video game with a particular focus on creating a sense of immersion and engagement with the viewer, and blurring the lines between video games and art.
