Stealth Mode (From Anxious Beings series)
In the not-so-distant future, public surveillance in the form of ‘smart’ lampposts will erode the last vestiges of private space in the public domain. As bio-metrics become the norm for identity verification, how can one choose to ‘opt out’ and keep our privacy intact while on the streets? This 'anxious being' tries to protect itself by morphing into stealth mode, with facets that distort and hide its presence from the all-seeing camera. It raises questions about the privacy of self in the public domain, and the data collected by organisations such as Google Maps and traffic cameras. This work is part of the series 'Anxious Beings' which proposes a biological evolution of humanity that employs transparency and fragmentation as forms of visual camouflage, in response to fears arising from the hidden onslaught of data tracking and mass surveillance.
