Toby Castles' 'Video Collage' embraces notions of experimentation and interactivity in video, and explores how the viewer can become an active agent in the creation of video art. Toby is grounded in fields of filmmaking and photography where he established a strong understanding of conventional shot structure and lighting techniques. However, Toby has recently become much more interested in experimenting with video as an interactive medium. Focused on providing more opportunities for engagement and interactivity within his work, Toby began to explore situations whereby the viewer becomes an active and valuable constituent of the artwork itself. In doing so, Toby seeks to provide viewers with unique and unfamiliar experiences which may foster new ways to understand themselves, others and the environment surrounding them.
