Traditional Architecture: Malay House
Syazwanie Zulkefli's project revolves around the idea of 'kampung', engaging with the characteristics of a 'village', and the concept of 'esprits de corps' which is the sense of intimacy and friendliness among the nearby residents, demonstrating cultural unity. The memory of 'kampung' singificantly guides the lives of most Malaysian individuals, and the image of 'kampung' remains pervasive in daily social and spatial practices in Malaysian cultures. Through her work, Syazwanie intends to illuminate these Malaysian cultures, reflecting upon her personal experiences within the country she grew up. Syazwanie believes her work possesses a unique identity by utilising paper sculpture as the medium of delivery. Through this work, Syazwanie draws upon a sense of togetherness, inspired by the way different races and cultures collaborate in preparation for the festival seasons, and expresses her ideas through this unique form of architecture.
