'Back to Dust' provides a powerful experience for viewers through its exploration of the human acceptance of death. Saskia Schoenmaker’s work explores the human condition in regards to our attitudes towards mortality and how our own knowledge and negative perceptions of this fate have influenced our ways of living, approaches to materialism, and even the structure of our society. Rooted in notions of Terror Management Theory, Saskia's work encourages individuals to shift away from existing perceptions of death as something to be dreaded, and embrace the idea of an 'authentic collective human soul' while retaining an awareness of the inherent vulnerability of human nature.
