Timelines
'Timelines' is a series of monoprints on hand-made paper, inspired by patterns of oxidation and wear common to natural or manmade objects. Cracks appear, irregular and angular at first; over time they soften and become more complex. Rhonda Nelson has made thick paper specifically for this series, incorporating objects and textures that reflect the subject matter. Its rough edges and textures bear the traces of its past and of the re-forming process. She has incorporated objects and small prints into the paper itself and molded paper around rusted objects which emboss and colour it. Rhonda combines a range of print making processes (etching, dry point, relief printing), collage, rust and clay effects to explore the marks of wear and tear that accumulate over time; rust colours predominate. 'Timelines' explores and honours the patterns and colours of aging and disintegration - the imperfect and the impermanent – the ‘badges’ of our existence.
