Plantation
Natalie Read is a textile and graphic designer whose practice is firmly influenced by the natural world around her. She takes inspiration from the beauty of flora and formations of the land, and therefore many of her works are concentrated on issues surrounding the environment. This focus has led Natalie to follow reuse discourses, slow design methodologies and repair theories throughout her practice. Natalie’s process, whether weaving forms together or imprinting upon fabrics through screen print, attempts to connect human experiences and emotions to a material language. Memories and stories can be seen throughout the forms and shapes that materialize, endeavouring to inform and connect with viewers, inducing closer inspection and understanding of the made object’s meaning. The details created throughout her work stimulate an appreciation for beautiful handcrafted design objects.
