Melissa Hamlyn
Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons)

Melissa Hamlyn’s art practice focuses on the vitality of the circulation and manipulation of materials as a way of generating textile, text and painted works. In ‘Unusual Pairings’, Melissa has crafted her impulsive use of objects from her immediate environment into an assemblage that reflects on studio processes. Each of the items present in the work are residue of artistic investigation and research; they are remnants from previous art projects and creative notions both realised and inert. Melissa's inventive gestures in the studio invest the objects with impressions of thought, transfer traces of conceptual rigor and absorb physical movement. A scrappy language transcribes itself between the forms to recall the objects' past and historical significance. Melissa is able to easily imagine her own interpretations.
