Rebreaking the Broken
‘Rebreaking the Broken’ is a proposed public art project in which letterboxes would be situated throughout Belmore Park for individuals affected by homelessness within Sydney. This project attempts to re-establish empathetic dialogue between homeless and non-homeless individuals within the city, applying visual communication techniques towards the issue of homelessness. The project observes this issue as a graphic design problem, given that negative stigma surrounding the issue is predominately created due to its visual nature. Overall, the project undertakes a critical analysis of the overtly commercial nature of graphic design as a field, and attempts to expand the discipline, demonstrating that it can operate effectively without such boundaries.
