Linkage
Erin Sidhom’s project 'Linkage' explores the user interaction between physical elements and social issues within public spaces. Using existing infrastructure, 'Linkage' aims to redefine the transport system in Sydney CBD by creating an elevated network exclusive to pedestrians and cyclists. 'Linkage' intends to be completed in three stages, and the first stage is the core of this project. Stage one focuses on the structure which will be located over the Cahill Expressway and Western Distributor. This stage fundamentally focuses on spatial design and how users interact with the structure which is addressed through various community engagement schemes such as community gardens, bike stations, and parent-only areas. The main concept of 'Linkage’ revolves around the idea of provoking a chain reaction. Erin proposes that transforming one site will cause a domino effect that will provoke the transformation and redesign of other sites around Sydney, generating a new network.
