Anthropocentric Rhizome
Emily Kaar visually addresses humanity's ecological impact and connection to invasive weed spread through engagement with, removal and documentation of ‘invasive weeds’. Various Australian woody weed species have been employed within her work to explore human spread in the form of invasive plant rhizomes. Emily is heavily influenced by the way weeds spread, with an interest in correlating properties between this spread and humanity. Weeds go where we go; like humans, weeds are excellent colonisers, able to spread, resettle, adapt and survive in environments across the globe.
