Locked Out
Through a symbolic connection to the body, 'Locked Out' brings the initial concerns of Sydney’s lockout laws to the surface. In this work, Ella Harrison addresses the problems of drunken violence, socio-demographic alteration from displaced violence, and the deprivation to Sydney’s live music industry that have emerged from the lockout laws. In response to these issues, Ella has created a series of jewellery pieces which each protest an individual consequence to the domino effect of the lockout laws, and are unified as a collection by highlighting ‘locking mechanisms’ throughout their designs. The collection aims to create an unconventional form of protest, in contrast to publicly engaging works, through allusive design references and body placement underpinned by a site-specific relationship.
