Douglas Schofield's practice responds to our current context of the Anthropocene and cultivated landscapes. He considers gardening as an activity which informs his art making. A practice in intaglio etching reflects a resurgence in interior design and plant-growing culture to incorporate Nature into our built environments. Running on a meandering parallel Douglas' paintings play with abstracting outdoor garden spaces. These bodies of work can operate individually, but communicate more complex ideas about natural environments when presented as a cohesive installation. Together these bodies of work evoke an atmosphere of 'the organic' and provide a space to question the definitions for, representations of, and modes of engagement with Nature and the landscape.
