x=why
Donna Gough explores the effect of light on psychology and spatial perception, particularly light's inherent ability to influence the eye and mind of the viewer. Donna is conceptually interested in the ephemeral nature of light installations and how projected light can manipulate space by adding an illusionary dimension. By working in animation, Donna has come to consider how images or frames converge and overlap, and has since become interested in the resulting space in between; each image exists at a different point in time, but where time (or space) slows down to a single frame. Linking material elements from photography, installation, sculpture and light-based media, Donna's work is an ongoing inquiry into notions of space, time, concepts of the ‘unknown’ and the illusion of time (ourselves) flowing from the past towards the future as a subjective experience of consciousness.
