Human Buying
Dongning Qiu considers the objectification of humans as another way of watching ourselves. Dongning also explores the notion that maybe humans were made by the Gods; therefore, similar to the robots that humans make, the Gods may not consider humankind to be capable of thought. For the Gods, there may be no difference between objects and humans; life on earth is just an active way of 'things' existing. Dongning's concept also relates to the religious belief of creationism which suggests that humans were created by divine beings instead of natural processes. This work presents a part of the human-making process by the Gods in a way that reflects our lives. Similar to buying products from supermarkets, human products are collected and put in a shopping basket. The God can then 'check-out' and assemble a human being after returning to his human-making studio. Dongning's work explores philosophical themes of human nature and freedom of thought, which provides humans another view on themselves.
