Let's Talk About It: Sex with Amy Lowe
While an engaged dialogue recognising the significance of women's issues is increasing in mainstream society, not all women are necessarily included in these conversations. 'Lets Talk About It: Sex with Amy Lowe' is the first episode of Danielle Gonda’s documentary series that seeks to prioritise the sharing of experiences and opinions regarding sex from the perspectives of women who are often left without a voice in mainstream media due to their race, colour, sexual orientation, gender expression/identity, culture, religion or disability. This preview of the first episode is about Amy, an artist, blogger, disability rights advocate and proud feminist. As a woman with a disability, in this episode Amy shares a plethora of stories regarding her personal growth as a sexual being in a wheelchair. Amy wants to stress the 'normality' of sex and disability by emphasising that we all have different bodies, and there is no ‘right way’ to have sex, or to express sexuality. Throughout this series, Danielle engages with the concept of intersectionality to create an awareness of how different women experience sex and sexuality in a variety of ways, and encourages viewers to interrogate their own privilege in their understandings of sex.
