The Land
Cassie Wu’s collage 'The Land' explores the concept of traditional and aggressive gender modes within the context of urban locations. To achieve this, Cassie has deconstructed the artistic use of theme, chromatic distribution, light, studio craft and materials to create works that resonate within gender studies, particularly engaging with the framework of feminism. 'The Land' illustrates a relatively simplex and stiff gender role in some specific cultural spheres, contrasted by another quite open and autonomous gender style in other locations. The six collages are based on Cassie's own photographic works merged with images from magazines, the internet, newspapers, advertisements and social media. Cassie combined digital painting and hand-made craft techniques to present her conclusions and feelings about gender identity and sexual difference from observing and considering different social phenomena.
