Hypergogia
Hypergogia (a play on the word ‘Hypnogogia’ meaning ‘confusion upon waking from a dream’) is a media installation depicting Beccy Tait's experiences with night terrors and vivid dreams. The works themselves are an artistic exploration into the night terrors Beccy has experienced and suffered with since she was a child. Linked with her severe anxiety, hallucinations of silhouetted figures, the sounds of screams, and the feeling of being shaken awake by hands that are not there, have all terrified Beccy within her sleep. It is through this work, that Beccy has not only aimed to investigate her own sleep parasomnia, but to educate others, transporting viewers into her experience of night terrors. By creating this work, Beccy hopes to come to peace with the experiences and perhaps discover what they are trying to tell her.
