Waste Matters
Alycia Nix's project examines food waste in millennial share households, focusing on engendering a discourse within the sub-community and expanding awareness of this issue. Globally, one third of all purchased food is thrown away; millennials are the primary wasters of food due to their irregular lifestyles and singular purchasing habits. The lack of education around the issue and the diminished understanding of the problem needs to be addressed. In response to this issue, Alycia created a number of sharing vessels constructed from 75% food waste, and a binder composite produced from organic materials. These bowls are 100% bio-degradable causing no harm to the environment, and can be placed in the garden or compost when no longer needed. These vessels aim to foster a convivial environment where food waste can be discussed, moving towards an eventual understanding and reduction of this problem.
